Nigeria are off to a strong start in Group C. The D-tigers beat Mali 81-73 on Wednesday August 25, at the Kigali Arena. The Nigerians managed a perfect start to the game by leading by 16 points in the first quarter (28-12). Despite a surge of pride from the Malians in the second quarter (31-16 for the Malians), Nigeria was ahead at the break. The score was 44-43.
The chase continued in the second half as Nigeria still led the third set by 18 points. The Malians then tried to come back in the last quarter, but the difference was already made. Final score: 81-73 for Nigeria.
Next outing for the D-tigers in this Afrobasket, Friday against Kenya. Mali will face Ivory Coast on the same day for match day 2.
