Basketball U19 World Cup: Step too high for the Africans

With Senegal's elimination, there is no longer an African team at the U19 Basketball World Cup

The only African representative in the quarter-finals, Senegal was laminated this Friday by the United States (88-58). The Cubs will play the classification matches for the 5th and 8th places of the tournament.

The United States took control from the 2nd minute of play. The Americans lead (9-0) against the Senegalese lacking inspiration especially in defense. The U19 Americans win (32-14) then logically in the first quarter.

The Cubs tightened their lines in the second quarter. This tactical option pays off as they come back to 16 points (45-29) of the United States. The break intervenes on this score (47-32) for the American formation.

The Cubs will come back to 10 pts (47-37). There are more than 8 minutes left to play in the 3rd quarter. But the United States will increase the gap (65-44) at the end of the quarter. They win (88-58). The adventure ends in the quarter-finals for Senegal who will meet Spain in a classification match for the 5th and 8th places.

Mali lost again against Iran (71-59) in the classification match for the 9th and 16th places. This is the fifth defeat in a row for the Eagles in this tournament. Mali was runner-up in 2019.
