Victor Kiplangat won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games last Saturday. The Ugandan won the marathon with a time of 2h10m55s. The 22-year-old finished ahead of Tanzanian Alphonce Felix Simbu (2h12mn29s) and Kenyan Michael Githae (2h13mn16s).
However, he almost had a funny misadventure. One and a half km from the finish, Victor Kiplangat took the wrong road. This while there was no barrier. A vehicle in front of him followed the wrong lane, for almost 40 meters. But the Ugandan athlete then turned around. "The people driving the motorcycles confused me. Then they told me to turn around and I still managed to reach the finish line. A spin that may have cost him the Games record. This one is held by Ian Thompson (2 h 09'12).
