Football - EPL: Arsenal give reasons for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's absence

Arsenal were without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their first Premier League game of the 2021-2022 season on 13 August against promoted Brentford, as they lost the opener to the newly promoted side. (2-0). According to the club, the absence of the Gabonese striker was due to illness. However, the nature of the illness was not specified.

On Thursday 19 August, as the Gunners prepare for their derby against Chelsea, scheduled for Sunday, the London club revealed that Aubameyang as well as Lacazette and Ales Runarsson were positive for Covid-19. This is the reason why they missed the first league game.

Aubameyang will however be available for the match against the Blues on Sunday afternoon. The latest tests of the Gabonese star are negative, according to club officials.
