The three men have joined forces to raise the sum of 1.8 million euros, the amount of the buyout clause of the club, currently 9th in the local league. "We are proud to announce that former German international, World Cup winner and FIFA World Player Lothar Matthaus has joined Accra Lions Football Club as a board member and shareholder," the Ghanaian club confirmed in a statement.

Matthäus did not hide his satisfaction and his enthusiasm to start this new project to find local talent. "Ghana has always had a huge potential of talent, we see it with the national team (...) We want to bring young players to Europe. In a serious way and already well trained," he said.
