The Chipolopolo of Zambia made a winning start in the FIFA World Cup 2022 beating hosts Mauritania in a Group B match played on Friday.
England based Enock Mwepu who features for Brighton & Hove Albion gave Zambia the lead after 10 minutes at the Stade Olympique – Nouakchott.
The striker gave the Mauritania goalkeeper no chance with a hard shot after finding the defenders flat footed.
Mauritania continued to push forward to try and find a goal, but the Chipolopolo defenders were tight at the back. Zambia’s Solomon Sakala and Prince Mumba were booked before the interval.
In the second half Zambia got off the blocks faster and made it 2-0 after 57 minutes. Striker Patson Daka provided a perfect cross in the box that Mumba slotted in.
