The Central African Republic managed a 1-1 draw against Cape Verde in their first 2022 World Cup qualifier on Wednesday 1 September at the Japoma Sports complex in Douala Cameroon.
The Fauves of Bas-Oubandi suffered a long time in front of their opponents of the day and they did not take long to concede the opening goal against the Blue Sharks. Julio Tavares, the Cape Verdean center-forward, gave his team the lead in the 36th minute (1-0).
After the break, the Raoul Savoy's men battled hard in the second half to get back on track. The Central Africans fought hard and were rewarded for their efforts in the 53rd minute with a goal from Trésor Toropité (1-1). The two teams left on this parity score.
During the second day of this group phase, the Central African Republic will travel to Liberia on 6 September, Cape Verde will receive Nigeria on 7 September.
