In a press release, the African Handball Confederation announced the withdrawal of Algeria from the 24th edition of the African Women's Nations Cup.
The Algerians were in group C with Angola, title holders, Congo and Cape Verde. In the end, they will not have their 18th appearance at the competition.
In hibernation for nearly two years, the Algerian women's team has not had time to prepare for this qualifying competition for the World Championship scheduled to take place in Spain from 2 to 19 December.
Concerning the reorganization of the competition with the withdrawal of Algeria, the African Handball Confederation decided to simply cancel the games of the Green girls. The rest of the program remains unchanged.
Initially scheduled for 2020 and then postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the African tournament will take place from 10 to 20 June in Cameroon. In addition to the continental title, four tickets to the World Cup are at stake.
