Olympic fencing: No miracle for Senegalese Bineta Diongue

Ndeye Bineta Diongue lost in the women's fencing competition. The Senegalese player was not able to cope with the experience of the number 5 seed in the women's draw, as she faced the Chinese Lin Sheng.

No miracle then for the fencer Bineta Diongue. The 33 year old Senegalese fencer, who is discovering the Olympic Games for the first time, lost in the round of 32 on Friday night. The protégé of the famous French fencing master Daniel Levavasseur, had started her fight ideally. Leading 1-2 at the end of the first period, she came back to the same level (2-2) at the beginning of the second period, before giving up 15 points to 6 against Lin Sheng, number 9 in the world.

It is already the end of Bineta Diongue's Olympic dream. The Dakar native will have her mind set on qualifying again for the Paris Games in 2024. At 36 years old, this will probably be her last chance to shine in front of the French public, as she has been living in this country for several years.
