Cameroon: Marc Brys appointed Indomitable Lions coach

It's now official: Cameroon have found Rigobert Song's successor. The announcement was made on the national channel, CRTV. Belgian coach Marc Brys (61) is the new head coach of the Indomitable Lions. He will be assisted by his deputies: Franàois Omam-Biyick, Ashu Bessong, Alioum Boukar as keeper trainer  and Germain Noël Essengueas TPO.

Prix Rfi Marc-Vivien Foé: 11 finalists announced

Marseille's Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba's succession to the Marc-Vivien Foé prize, awarded to the best African player in the French league, is officially open. The nominees are Marseille's Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lille's Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb, Metz's Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara, Reims' Ivorian striker Oumar Diakité, Rennes' Algerian striker Amine Gouiri and PSG's Moroccan full-back,Achraf Hakimi, Marseille's Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba, who could succeed himself, Nice's Burundian midfielder Youssouf Ndayishimiye, Nice's Nigerian striker Term Moffi, Nantes' Nigerian striker Terem Moffi and Monaco's Ivorian defender Wilfried Singo.

 

Côte d'Ivoire: after Guéla, Désiré Doué in the sights?

Guéla Doué made his first appearance for the Côte d'Ivoire national team during their last training camp at the end of March. His younger brother and teammate at Rennes, Désiré (18), who is at the same club as him (Rennes), is also on the FIF's radar, according to president Idriss Diallo.

"We're going to do everything we can to make Désiré Doué want to join us," he said in an interview on the Nouvelle Chaîne Ivoirienne on Monday April 1. Désiré Doué, an attacking midfielder, is a France U-21 international. He is seen in Rennes and in France as one of France's greatest talents.

 

Algeria: Yassine Benzia reflects on his stroke of genius against South Africa

Some goals are eternally etched in the memory. For Yassine Benzia, the one he scored against South Africa (3-3) in a friendly on March 26 is certainly one of them. The Qarabag player delivered a magnificent left-footed overhead kick after lifting the ball himself. Quite a performance for the player who was making his return to the national team after an absence of five and a half years. Speaking to L'Equipe, the former Lille man reflects on this masterpiece.

Honestly, it goes really fast," he admits. In one touch, I lifted the ball with my right foot and followed it up acrobatically with my left. (...) I know it sounds crazy, but I wasn't surprised. It's in me, it's my soccer. When I was young at Lyon, I played as a number 9. I've always had a flair for it and I've always been able to find my bearings in the penalty area.

Benzia scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist in 2 games during the summer break. Furthermore, this season with Qarabag, the 29-year-old has 13 goals and 10 assists in 41 matches across all competitions. This augurs well for Algeria's upcoming campaign.

Volleyball - OG 2024 (Q): Mozambique to train in Portugal and Brazil

 

Mozambique's men's and women's volleyball teams will be training in Brazil and Portugal. The aim is to prepare for the final qualifying window for the Paris Olympic Games, scheduled for June 13-23.The training camp in Brazil will take place from April 8 to May 6, and from May 7 to June 14 it will be Portugal's turn to host the Mozambicans, where they will play several friendly matches.

On the women's side, the duo will be Ana Paula Sinaportar and Vanessa Muianga. On the men's side, the pairing of Ainadino Martinho, Jorge Monjane, José Mondlane and Osvaldo Mungói has yet to be decided.

NBA - Philadelphia: Joel Embiid's return is imminent!

Is this the end of the long wait for Joel Embiid? Injured since January, the Sixers' colossus is on the comeback trail. In fact, according to ESPN and The Athletic, the 2023 MVP is set to play again...as early as this Tuesday, April 02, when the Sixers host Oklahoma. This is huge news for his team, which has been tongue-tied since his injury.

Without him over the last two months, Philadelphia has posted a dismal record of 11 wins and 18 losses, currently in 8th place in the East. With Joel Embiid, the franchise was virtually unstoppable, with only 26 wins and 6 losses and 5th place in the East. Embiid averaged 35 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 assists and 1 steal.

Tennis - Charleston Tournament: Ons Jabeur defends her title

Ons Jabeur is about to put her title back on the line at the WTA 5000 tournament in Charleston, USA. The competition kicks off this Wednesday, April 3. Exempted from the first round, the Tunisian will make her debut against the winner between American Danielle Collins (world no. 22) and Spain's Paula Badosa (world no. 82).

Ons Jabeur remains sixth in the world for the 22nd week running, according to the latest WTA rankings published on Monday April 1st.

AS Roma - Aouar: "The difference is that now the coach talks to me a lot"

Algerian midfielder Houssem Aouar is still without a regular place in Roma's starting XI. His situation is much the same under Mourinho, in terms of playing time, as it is under new coach Daniele De Rossi. But there has been an improvement, in his condition, that in his relationship with De Rossi in his approach, he clarifies."Everything has changed with De Rossi. The difference is that now the coach talks to me a lot. He told me to increase my intensity and I've done that, I'm training every day to be ready if I'm needed".

The Algerian player took part in 13 Serie A matches this season, scoring 3 goals for his team.

 

Premier League: Semenyo, Cheick and Abdoulaye Doucouré their clubs' favourite players

Telegraph Sport has published a special ranking. It lists the players with the highest average points for each Premier League team when they play. These statistics are based on a minimum average of 35 games. 3 Africans, including 2 Malians, are on this list. They are Cheick Doucouré of Crystal Palace. When he plays, the club averages 1.24 points per game. The other Malian is Everton's Abdoulaye Doucouré, whose average is 1.26 points. Ghanaian Antoine Semenyo completes the trio. When he's on the pitch, Bournemouth average 1.43 points per game.
