South African national team striker Hildah Magaia has opened up about being the latest women’s footballer from the country to make a move to Europe.
The deadly striker, who was named the 2020 Cosafa Women’s Challenge Player of the Tournament, signed with Swedish club Moron BK, becoming the latest on a growing list of players to make a move to Europe. In recent years, South Africa has exported players such as Janine van Wyk, Refiloe Jane, Thembi Kgatlana, Jermaine Seopesenwe, Noko Matlou, Leandra Smeda and Linda Motlhalo.
After the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, there are more South African players getting recognition from clubs in Europe.
Magaia, who is the future of the senior women’s team known as Banyana Banyana, is excited that she is finally living her dream of playing overseas.
“I am so delighted about this opportunity to spread my wings and showcase my God given talent,” she told the South African Football Association.
“I am hoping to be better than I was before and be able to help Moron BK win trophies and also do well for Banyana Banyana whenever I am given a chance to represent the country.”
