U17 AFCON: Algeria to host the 2023 edition

Algeria's U17 team

CAF has entrusted the organization of the next African Cup of Nations U17 to Algeria. This will be in 2023 and in the same year the Algerians will also host the African nations championship. The announcement was made by CAF during its Executive Committee meeting in Kigali on Saturday.

By organizing this CAN, Algeria hopes to add its name to the list of winners. The Fennecs have never won this competition. However, they did manage to reach the final on home soil in 2009. Algeria had lost to Gambia (3-1)

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced that the matches will be held at the new stadium in Oran, the 5 July stadium in Algiers and the Mustapha-Tchaker stadium in Blida.

The  U17AFCON was supposed to be held this year in Morocco in March. But the tournament was cancelled four days before the start due to the health crisis.
