The nations qualified for the 2021 Women's Afrobasket know their group opponents. The draw ceremony of the tournament took place this Saturday, July 31. It took place at the Palais Polyvalent des Sports in Yaounde. The 12 participating countries will be in four groups of 3 teams. Cameroon, the host country, is housed in pool A with Cape Verde and Kenya. According to the rules of the International Federation of Basketball Association (FIBA), the host country of this 26th edition will have the latitude to choose its opponent for the opening game.
Nigeria is in Group B. The defending champion will face Mozambique and the representative of Zone 6 whose qualifiers take place in the middle of August. Senegal, unfortunate finalist of the last edition is in group C. The Lionesses of Teranga have a date with Egypt and Gabon. While in group D, Mali will face Ivory Coast and a guest to be determined by FIBA.
During the first round, each team will meet the two opponents of its group in a one-way tie. The first of each group are qualified for the quarterfinals. The second-placed teams will play the third-placed teams in a quarter-final qualifying round. The matches will be played in a knockout format.
The final tournament will take place from 17 to 26 September 2021. This will be the second edition organized by Cameroon after the 2015 edition which saw the host country finish second.
