South Africa has won another medal at the World Short Course Championships currently taking place in Melbourne. After the gold medals of Chad Le Clos (100-200m butterfly) and Matt Sates (200m medley), Lara Van Niekerk won silver in the 50m breaststroke. The South African clocked a stratospheric time of 29s09 behind Lithuania's Ruta Meilutyte (28s50) and ahead of American Lilly King (29s11). The 19-year-old swimmer thus explodes her African record in the 50m breaststroke (29s45), achieved during the heats.
