AS Vita Club on Saturday could just have plunged Al Ahly into further self disbelieve as the Congolese side pulled a stunning 2-2 draw away in Cairo against the Egyptian giants.
After Ahly's shocking 1-0 defeat on match day 2 of the African Champions League in Tanzania, their game against Vita club at home looked set for revival at least with a victory in front of home support.
Florent Ibenge's men hold the defending champion dry. It was Ricky Tulenge who equalized at 2-2 from the penalty spot, allowing the Black Dolphins to give the last jab. Glody Lilepo (42nd) drew first blood for the visitors.
But the Red Devils managed a turnaround in two minutes. In the 69th minute, Mohamed Sherif exploited a mistake of the defense to score. And in the 71st minute, Marwan Mohsen gave Pitso Mosimane's men the lead after a pass from Magdy Afsha.
The draw will very likely dampen Ahly's Champions League enthusiasm at least for a while after coach Pitso Mosimane came under severe attacks on his choices that cost Ahly's 13 match win run in the competition. The Egyptians will need to turn things around beggining in the return fixture if they will want to save their Champions League exploits this season.
The Kinois leave with a point before the second leg in 10 days time. The Cairo team misses the opportunity to join Simba Sports in the lead. The Tanzanians also shared the spoils on the road with Sudanese Al Marreikh (0-0).
