CAF CUP Semis: Coton Sport risk not playing at home in Garoua

Cameroon's lone representative at this year's continental club competition, Coton Sport of Garoua will not play their semi final CAF Confederation Cup away leg game at their base in Garoua. The Garoua team will either have to relocate to Yaounde or Douala. This is because their home stadium does not have the VAR system which is a prerequisite for hosting CAF club competition games.

In a letter addressed by CAF to the Cameroon Football Federation, the African football body clearly reminds the Federation that all semi final matches must be played on facilities with Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) components. CAF even went further to advice that the VAR system from Yaounde or Douala could be moved to Garoua should Coton Sport insists on playing her game at home.

Unfortunately for Coton Sport, their base which is the Ruomde-Adjia stadium in Garoua does not have a VAR system in place. The letter from CAF is date June 2nd.

In response, the Secretary General of Fecafoot addresses an eventual letter to the club president of Coton Sport of Garoua on June 12, just over a week to the said encounter. The object of the letter is to convince the Garoua team to relocate either to Yaounde or Douala, meaning that the Federation is not willing to displace the VAR system to Garoua.

The club has made an official statement regarding the letter from Fecafoot. Coton Sport has accepted to play the game in Yaounde but the club has asked Fecafoot to take charge of the displacement, feeding and lodging of a 35 man delegation from Garoua. Fecafoot will also provide training facilities and other needs of the team while in Yaounde.

The team is continuing training in Garoua as they prepare to take on JS Kabilie whose home turf in Tizi-Ouzou equally does not have the VAR system in place. We learned the return leg game against Coton Sport has also been relocated to Algers where VAR facilities are installed.
