CAF: Infantino's visits to Africa steer question marks.

Two years after his visit to DR Congo, Gianni Infantino returns to Kinshasa this Saturday for another visit. The FIFA President is indeed making an African tour that he began Tuesday in Mauritania, on the sidelines of the U20 AFCON.

Less than a month before the election for the presidency at CAF, some observers will not fail to see a willingness from the Fifa boss to convince African presidents to align themselves behind "his candidature" as Fifa president. Yes, because it has been several weeks that Gianni Infantino is suspected of pulling the strings. And especially after the episode of candidacy files examined by the Control Commission of the world body.

But that's all suspicion because officially, the FIFA boss is on an African tour to discuss the development of African soccer with several heads of state. By chance perhaps, the first two stops of his visit to the continent are Mauritania and Senegal. Two countries which have, indeed, each one a candidate for the post of president of Caf. These are Ahmed Yahya and Augustin Senghor.

"Prospective Collaborations"

In Nouakchott, Gianni Infantino inaugurated the Nouadhibou Municipal Stadium. This stadium has an artificial turf financed by the FIFA Forward program. He thus magnified and "expressed his pride in the collaboration (FIFA Forward program) with Ahmad Yahya, President of the Mauritanian Federation.

And in Dakar, the FIFA President said, among other things, during an audience with the President of the Republic Macky Sall that "the African continent needs to unite its forces, rather than disperse and divide." Infantino also added that it is important for Africa "to work truly in union to project African soccer to the top of world soccer."

Collaboration with the African Union

Gianni Infantino will meet with several other FIFA member associations, as well as heads of state. Kinshasa will be one of the stops on this tour. Indeed, the FIFA President will first inaugurate regional offices in Kigali (Rwanda) and Brazzaville (Congo). Then, this Saturday, he goes to the Democratic Republic of Congo where he is expected to spend 48 hours. He will thus meet with President Félix Tshisekedi. The latter is also the current chairman of the African Union (AU).

The two men already discussed last week on the role of soccer in Africa. Beyond the lawns especially. "It will be possible for our two organizations to strengthen their collaboration in many areas. Like education, through our Football for Schools program, the fight against match manipulation. And all other forms of corruption. Or safety and security in all stadiums on the continent," said President Infantino after the interview, conducted via the Zoom.
