COSAFA Cup guests Senegal will take on six-time champions Zimbabwe in the group stages of the 20th edition of the competition, to be staged in South Africa from July 7-18.
Senegal and Zimbabwe have been drawn into group C, which will also feature Mozambique and 2015 champions Namibia. The draw for the South African competition was conducted in Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape, on Thursday, June 17.
Hosts South Africa, who recently appointed Hugo Broos as their head coach after parting ways with Molefi Ntseki, have been drawn into group A with Lesotho, Eswatini and Botswana.
Defending champions Zambia are in group B with Malawi, Madagascar and Comoros.
The 12 countries in the competition have been drawn into three groups. The countries which finish top of the table and the best placed runner-up from the three groups will progress to the semi-finals of the competitions.
The COSAFA Cup will provide adequate preparation for the countries who will be taking part in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this year.
The COSAFA Cup was not played last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it makes a return this year with a different format. Previously the top ranked countries were given a bye and would only join the competition in the knockout stages.
Zimbabwe have the record of most titles in the Cosafa Cup with six trophies. Zambia has won it five times, while South Africa have claimed it on four occasions.
Group A: South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana
Group B: Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Comoros
Group C: Senegal, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia
