Captain Alexander Song Billong and Arta Solar7 fc have won the Djibouti Premier League following their 4-2 win over second place AS Port on Friday, leaving an 11 point drift with two games to spare in a match counting for day 16 in the local championship.
It is the first time in the club's history winning the title and the team had earlier made it's intention clear when they signed the former Arsenal and Fc Barcelona midfielder in November 2020.
The decision to move to Africa was hugely questioned for a player with such a high profile football resume but the 33 year old midfielder had earlier made his intention clear.
"I have signed a two year contract with Arta. This is an opportunity to promote Djibouti football", the former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder announced on twitter.
Local media reported that Song will also oversee the club's youth development, a decision made after he met with the club's president.
Alex Song was also instrumental in the game as he provided an assist. The team wins a first league title in the 10 team competition and have guaranteed Champions League football for next season.
Last season they won the Djibouti Cup and finished 4th on the standing, giving them access to the preliminary round of the Confederation Cup but they were eliminated by Egypt's Arab Contractors.
The team finished this season in style scoring 61 goals in 16 matches, two defeats and no draw game.
Ghanaian striker Gabriel Dadzie took the league by storm as he finished top scorer with 23 goals in just 16 of the 18 league matches to be played.
