Black Galaxies of Ghana qualified for CHAN

The Black Galaxies of Ghana returns to the CHAN competition after missing out on three consecutive times.

Ghana defeated Nigeria in a penalty shootout to book a seat at the next CHAN competition after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Ghana despite winning by 2goals in the first leg encounter at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium last week paraded a tough starting lineup, aiding them to hold the first half to a goalless draw.

Coach Annor Walker in the second half tactically introduced Amos Acheampong, Umar Bashiru and Jonah Attuquaye for Suraj Seidu, Dominic Nsobila and Gladson Awako respectively.

The homeside kept knocking on the doors of Ghana until it was opened in the 78th minute, where Plateau United forward, Rabiu Muhammad Zulkifilu broke the deadlock with a fine strike.

Annor Walker's side failed to hold on to the game as they conceded another goal with four minutes to end durations, giving the Super Eagles the chance to end the game on a 2-2  aggregate through Morice Chukwu.

Ghana won 5-4 on penalties to secure a ticket to the 2023 Championship of African Nations in Algeria after missing out in the last three editions of the tournament.

The Black Galaxies will join the likes of Niger, Senegal, Uganda, Ethiopia among others for the ultimate which starts from January 8 to February 5 2023 in Algeria.

Ghana have now qualified for a major tournament at the expense of Nigeria for the second time this year, following the Black Stars’ 2022 World Cup play-off victory over the Super Eagles in March.
