Morocco have only a few hours left to make known a venue for the Wydad Casablanca vs Kaizer Chiefs match. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) gives the country until Sunday at midnight to meet this demand.
The day after the South African Football Federation (SAFA) comes out with a decision not to play elsewhere other than in Morocco, CAF breaks the silence. And it is not for a clarification but for an ultimatum to Morocco concerning the Wydad AC vs Kaizer Chiefs match in the Champions League. The African Football governing body is indeed asking the Cherifian Kingdom to quickly solve the problem by providing a match venue. Thus, Morocco has until midnight on Sunday to find a solution.
A "final deadline."
Failure to respond within the deadline, the Moroccan club could lose the game by a forfeit costing them 3 points and two goals. This is in accordance with Caf rules.
"If we do not receive your answer regarding the venue of this match, the case will be submitted to the competent committee to examine the possibility of canceling the match and consider it 2-0 in favor of the visiting team."says CAF in a correspondence addressed to the Moroccan Federation (FRMF). In the letter signed by the Secretary General of the continental body, Abdelmounaïm Bah, it even specifies that it is a "last deadline."
This injunction comes the day after SAFA's decision not to send its teams to play on neutral ground. The Moroccans have done all possible to avoid South Africans touch their soil owing to the growing Covid concerns. The Moroccan federation had also asked Egypt to host the match. But the Egyptian authorities did not respond favorably to the request. Now with their back to the wall, Morocco will have to find an emergency solution. The countdown has already started.
