The head coach of Burundi’s national team Jimmy Ndayizeye has said facing African champions Algeria in an international friendly match will be a good test for his team.
Algeria will host The Swallows of Burundi in an international friendly match on July 26th in Algiers.
“This International friendly game against the African champions will give my players a good test and also the technical bench the chance to try out several aspects,” said Ndayizeye.
The friendly match between the two teams was originally meant to take place on June 16th, 2021, but was rescheduled because of travel challenges and COVID-19 restrictions.
Although Algeria is expected to use their local based players for the match, they will also use the match to prepare ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers to start in September. Burundi was ejected by Tanzania in the preliminary round of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
Top scorer in the 2020/2021 Burundi Premier League which ended last month Abdul Rukundo (Kayanza United) together with Messager Ngozi’s duo of Hamza Nyanzira and Cedrick Urasenga are expected to make the Swallows squad.
