Football - UEFA Champions League (Day 2): Africans set the pace

The second day of the Champions League started on Tuesday 28 September as the Africans who were at the meeting, did not miss their exit. They were numerous on the score sheet.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané helped Liverpool to a big win at FC Porto. The Egyptian opened the way for the Reds in the 18th minute. He was followed by Senegalese Sadio Mané just before the break (45th). The Reds had to wait until the end of the second half to get back into the game. Liverpool, thanks to three goals from their Africans, won 5-1.

Idrissa Gana Guèye also made his mark in this second day of the Champions League. He put Paris Saint-Germain on the map. The Senegalese midfielder opened the scoring (8th) against Manchester City with a superb right-footed shot. Messi added to the tally in the 74th minute to secure a 2-0 victory for Paris against the Citizens.

Sebastian Haller once again showed his resplendent form. The Ajax striker struck again. The Ivorian international scored in the 43rd minute in the Dutch team's 2-0 victory over Besiktas. It was Haller's fifth goal in two games after his quadruple against Sporting (5-1 win) on 15 September. He is undoubtedly the most prominent African player in the Champions League at the start of the season. The rest of match day 2 fixtures in Europe's most cherished football club competition will continue on Wednesday September 29 with mouth watering fixtures such as Juventus vs Chelsea.
