The national team of Guinea Bissau, Djurtus have gone top of Group I in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers after picking a 4-2 victory away to Sudan on Tuesday night.
Striker Silva Djassi Brito Piqueti scored early for the visitors after 8 minutes at the Al Hilal Stadium.
The visitors continued to dominate the match before Frederic Mendy netted the second goal after 11 minutes. Sudan tried to defend in numbers, but still failed to contain the Guinea Bissau team as they pushed forward to hunt for more goals.
Six minutes to half time Piqueti netted his second goal of the day. The Sudan defenders failed to clear their lines giving Piqueti time to shoot at goal.
In the second half the Falcons of Jediane tried to fight back and pulled a goal back after 55 minutes through Mohamed Abdel Raman.
But the Guinea Bissau team remained the dominant side as they added another goal through Mama Balde who headed in after 82 minutes.
Sudan scored their second goal on added time with Raman scoring again. “I am disappointed with the way we played today,” said Sudan’s coach Hubert Velud.
It was Sudan’s second defeat after they 2-0 away to Morocco last week.
Guinea Bissau now top Group I with 4 points, while Morocco who are yet to play their second match because of instability in Guinea are second with 3 points. Guinea are in third place with a point, and Sudan bottom without a point.
