The Teranga Lions defeated Togo (2-0) on Wednesday 1 September in the first day of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar. Sadio Mané opened the score for Senegal in the 56'. The second goal was the work of Abdou Diallo (81'), who signed his first goal in selection.
The Senegalese team has won almost every game, but the way they play is not convincing. Against Togo on Wednesday, September 1 on the occasion of the first day of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar, the Senegalese team did not deviate from this rule. The Lions won 2-0 against the Sparrow hawks, and although they picked up their first three points in Group H, victory was slow in coming.
With a starting line-up that looked like a galaxy, the Lions had to wait a long time before finding their rhythm. Aliou Cissé's team often struggled to create a link between the midfield and the forwards. With a lot of activity in midfield, Idrissa Gana Guèye and Cheikhou Kouyaté certainly grabbed a lot of balls, but they were less comfortable on the offensive side. They had a hard time finding Sadio Mané, Boulaye Dia or Ismaila Sarr, who were lined up in the front line, against a team that was well within their reach. The result was a goalless first half as Togo managed to frustrate Senegal.
Sadio Mané and Abdou Diallo to give Senegal victory
In the second half, Sadio Mané and his team came back from the break with a lot more spirit. The Liverpool striker opened the scoring after a fine move with Boulaye Dia. The Reds' number 10 started the move on the right side of the hawks' defense and finished off a clever one-two with his compatriot with a fine outside foot. Sadio scored his 24th international goal and moved a step closer to Henri Camara's record of 31.
The Senegalese, freed by this goal, then increased their attacks in the opposing camp, but without being effective. The Senegalese were looking for the breakthrough on the flanks, but finally found safety thanks to their left-back, Abdou Diallo. The PSG player came to the forefront of the game and buried in a corner with a beautiful half-volley (81'). He also scored his first international goal for the Lions of Teranga.
With this result, Senegal takes its first three points in group H before going to Brazaville to face Congo on 7 September. For this opposition on the second day,
