The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) held the Aiteo Awards on Wednesday 22 September. This third edition rewards the most prolific players of the 2020-2021 season. The ceremony was dedicated to the 1999 Super Falcons, quarter-finalists of the World Cup of the same year. Asisat Oshoala and Paul Onuachu won the title of the best player, established abroad.

His compatriot Asisat Oshoala was named Nigeria's best foreign-based player. The Super Falcons captain has won everything with Barcelona: the Champions League, the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga.
Local players were also honored. Silas Nwankwo and Charles Atshimene share the title of best player in the Nigerian Premier League. Both finished joint top scorers with 19 goals each. Gift Monday is the best player in the Nigerian women's league.
Women in the spotlight
This third edition was dedicated to the 1999 Nigerian women's national team. The 1998 African champions were the first African team to reach the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup in Atlanta.
Other players in Nigerian women's football have also been honored. Lagos hosted the first edition of the Aisha Buhari Cup, which was won by South Africa. And the country's first lady received the award for the best supporter of women's football. Edo State was also awarded for its commitment to the development of women's football.
