South Africa: Broos names preliminary squad for AFCON qualifiers

Hugo Broos has named a 37-man preliminary squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers

South African national team coach Hugo Broos is continuing to try out different faces in the team, as he named a 37-man preliminary squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Morocco and Zimbabwe.

Bafana Bafana, as South Africa is affectionately known, are due to kickstart their 2023 AFCON qualifying campaign against Morocco on 9 June in Rabat and then will host Zimbabwe in Johannesburg on 13 June.

A 37-man preliminary squad has been named by the Belgian Broos, and the final team is expected to be confirmed on 26 May.

Squad

Goalkeepers: Ronwen Williams (SuperSport United), Veli Mothwa (AmaZulu), Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen (both Kaizer Chiefs).

Defenders: Nyiko Mobbie (Sekhukhune United), Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Lyle Lakay, Aubrey Modiba (all Mamelodi Sundowns), Bandile Shandu, Innocent Maela (both Orlando Pirates), Thibang Phete (Belenenses, Portugal), Siyabonga Ngezana (Chiefs), Taariq Fielies, Terrence Mashego (both Cape Town City), Luke Fleurs (SuperSport), Thabani Zuke (Golden Arrows), Athenkosi Mcaba (Stellenbosch FC).
