South Africa: South American star to arrive at Sundowns

Chilean attacker Marcelo Allende is set to be unveiled by Mamelodi Sundowns

South Africa’s reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns are awaiting the arrival of Chilean attacker Marcelo Allende, their latest signing.

Allende has been signed by Sundowns from Uruguayan club Montevideo City, where he spent three seasons. Montevideo have already wished the 23-year-old attacker well ahead of his move to Sundowns, who want to register Allende for the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.

Sundowns have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the South American player can have the right documentation to travel to South Africa to start a new chapter in his career.

Sundowns are expected to unveil the 23-year-old in the coming days, having already signed Abubeker Nassir, Bongani Zungu, Sipho Mbule and Ronwen Williams during the current transfer window.

With so much quality in the Sundowns squad, it remains to be seen how Allende will fit in the line-up. He is a player who can create a lot of opportunities for the strikers, and this is what the Sundowns coaches will expect him to do for the likes of Peter Shalulile, Thabiso Kutumela and Themba Zwane.

Recently signed Ethiopian international Nassir has started well at Sundowns, scoring his first goal for the club in a 4-0 victory over Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus in Pretoria on Saturday, 13 August.

Sundowns, meanwhile, have made a good start to the season, winning two of their first three matches. They are currently in fourth place on the DSTV Premiership standings. Their next match is against Sekhukhune United on Saturday, 20 August.
