South African striker Percy Tau looks set to reunite with head coach Pitso Mosimane, with an agreement said to have been reached.
It is believed that Tau, who is currently on the books of English Premier League side Brighton Hove & Albion, will join Mosimane’s Al Ahly side. Tau has been in pre-season with Brighton and was not included in South Africa’s Olympics squad because he wanted to fight for his place in the starting line-up at his club in England. It now, however, seems like the player will be making a surprise move to Al Ahly on loan, with Mosimane determined to reunite with the player.
Tau and Mosimane worked together at Mamelodi Sundowns and won the 2016 CAF Champions League. Tau was voted as South Africa’s footballer of the season for 2017/18, before making a move to England to join Brighton.
Immediately after Tau signed for Brighton in 2018, he was loaned out to Belgian second tier club Royale Union Saint-Gilliose for the 2018/19 campaign. A season later, he spent a year with Club Brugge and won the league title with them. After the successful spell with Brugge, Tau was loaned out to Anderlecht, where he had former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany as his coach. He was only at Anderlecht for half a season before he was recalled by Brighton in January 2021. He finished off the 2020/21 campaign with Brighton but was unable to break into the team.
Now, as the new seasons approaches, there is no guarantee that Tau is going to play regularly for his parent club, which is why he could make a move to join reigning African champions Ahly on another loan deal.
