UEFA CL: Mixed fortunes for Real Madrid ahead of Liverpool clash

Real Madrid are already in Liverpool ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League return leg quarter final clash against the current English champions.

Florentino Perez who became President of Real Madrid in 2000 has been reelected unopposed as the team's president for the 6th term. The Spanish Businessman is arguably the most successful club president the team has ever had. Under his reign Madrid saw the likes of Zidane, Bechkam, Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale win trophies at the Bernabeu.

Since July 2000, under the presidency of Perez, Madrid have won five Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, five La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles and five Spanish Super Cups. Under his reign Real Madrid has created an unmatched feat in the history of Europe's most prestigious club competition, winning the Champions League 3 times in a bounce.

On the flip side the team is without captain Sergio Ramos who has tested positive for Covid 19. In a statement the club announced on Tuesday that they are without the Spanish defender ahead of the game in Liverpool. Ramos' center back pair Raphael Varane also tested positive last week and was ruled out of the team.

Over the weekend, Zidane's makeshift center pair; Militao and Nacho managed to keep Leo Messi and Barcelona at bay in the Classico (2-1 for Real Madrid). The same pair is most likely to start against Liverpool on Wednesday night. Zidane can count on a strong and improving relationship upfront between Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr.
