Cameroon beat Nigeria (1-0) in one of the two friendly matches between the two teams during the month of June at the Weiner Neustadt stadium in Vienna, Austria. A missile from more than 30 meters by André Zambo Anguissa was enough for the Indomitable Lions to claim glory over their eternal rivals and neighbors 37 minutes into the game.
The last time the two teams met was at the 2019 African Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles had eliminated (3-2) the Indomitable Lions in the round of 16 of the event.
For the Nigeria coach, the benefits of the reunion with Cameroon is far more important than the final result. "It is an opportunity for the players to show all their talent to be in the list for the next games that we will play against Liberia and Cape Verde, which are two good teams," said Gernot Rohr on Cameroonian radio RSI before the game, as reported by Football365.
The coach added: "This match against Cameroon is for me the opportunity to see players for the first time. There are seven key players who are not here: Osimhen, Aribo, Balogun, Akpoguma, but also Chukwueze who has had surgery. It's a great opportunity for the others to play against Cameroon, who have a very good team, with 26 players in training, while we only have 20. But we will try to show our best face."
The two teams will meet on the same pitch on Tuesday 8 June for their second friendly this month in the FIFA window. The star studded Nigerian side is expected to take a revenge and make their voices heard in this game.
