A big blow for Congolese local football as the national carrier Congo Airways says it will no longer provide local flights to the 16 participating teams in the national football competition. The Airline says the government has failed to meet up with financial commitments on the deal.
The airline has reportedly already suspended the teams' transport across the country until payment of its previous invoices, valued at $1 million (FCFA 542 million).
As a result, the matches Sanga Balende vs Racing Club of Kinshasa and CS Don Bon Bosco vs AC Rangers have been postponed because the teams cannot travel by air as previously scheduled.
While TP Mazembe, AS Vita Club, DCMP, and Sanga Balende can manage financially, this is not the case for the other clubs. The situation is becoming worrying for the rest of the national championship. No government statement yet on the issue.
