Pitso Mosimane lavished praise on Junior Ajayi after he made a goalscoring return with a brace twice in Al Ahly's 2-1 win over El Geish in the Egyptian Premier League encounter on Sunday.
Ajayi was making her first league appearance since suffering an ankle injury in October 2020 as the African champions were smarting from a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tanzanian club Simba SC last Tuesday.
In a bid for winning return, the Red Devils made a false start at the Al Ahly Stadium as Ahmed Samir gave the visitors a shock lead, after his 26th minute effort.
Al Ahly, however bounced back into the contest when Ajayi led the hosts' fightback in the encounter, with his leveler in the 32nd minute and he later provided the matchwinner on the brink of full time.
“We need big players to step up in the big matches and that is what happened today from Mohamed El Shenawy. He always delivers when the team needs him, ”Mosimane told the club website .
“Ajayi is one of the key players in the team. He just returned from an injury, but he managed to score our two goals in the match. ”
“We pushed forward to score and I decided to add more strikers. Also, I was aware of the players who were booked when I made the substitutions. "
With the latest triumph, Al Ahly are second in the Egyptian Premier League table despite with two games in hand, sitting five points adrift of leaders Zamalek.
In their next fixture, Al Ahly will look to subdue Vita Club on their home ground on March 6 and the Nigeria international will be relied upon to deliver in front of the goal in the Champions League group stage encounter.
