Banda was the star of the show for Zambia, while Netherlands striker Anna Marina Miediema bagged four goals in an impressive display for the Europeans. Elisabeth Martens netted a brace for the Oranje, while Shanice van de Sanden, Jill Roord, Lineth Beerensteyn and Victoria Pelova also got their names on the scoresheet to wrap up an emphatic victory.

Zambia, though, will take heart from the fact that they were able to break the Netherlands defence and they can take that into their next match against China PR on Saturday, 24 July.

Zambia are Africa’s only representative at the Olympics.

In the other group F game, Brazil hammered China PR 5-0.
