RSSB Tigers: the new lions of Kigali
The story of this final is written first in Kigali. The RSSB Tigers are the third Rwandan team to reach the last four of the BAL, following in the footsteps of the BBC Patriots (semi-finalists in 2021) and APR BBC (third in 2025). But no Rwandan club had ever reached the final so far.
In the semi-finals, the Tigers scored an authoritarian 106-97 victory against the 2023 champions, Al Ahly SC, led by Craig Randall II (30 points, 5 assists) and Oumar Ballo, MVP of the game with total domination at the rebound. The electric atmosphere of the BK Arena was amplified by the presence of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who came to support his supporters from the stands.
The team’s offensive engine is Craig Randall II, a point machine: he is the tournament’s top scorer with an average of 37.7 points, and still holds the record for most points in a single game in BAL. A record set early in the season: 54 points scored against Dar City on April 4th.
Petro de Luanda: the champion never admits defeat
On the other side, Petro de Luanda embodies experience and resilience. Angolans reached the BAL final in 2022, 2024, 2025, and now in 2026, four finals in six seasons, including a title won in 2024.
Their semi-final against Al Ahly Ly (Libya) confirmed their championship temperament: led during the first three quarters, they managed a comeback from the other world to win 94-88. A sign that does not deceive.
The clash of styles
This final opposes the raw passion of a home team led by an entire people to the tactical discipline and experience of one of the most successful clubs on the continent. For the Tigers, it’s the culmination of a fairy tale from their first season. For Petro, this is an opportunity to confirm their status as a reference in African basketball.
A sharp fact: Petro de Luanda had already lost to the RSSB Tigers in the group phase, which makes this final even more intriguing; the Angolans will have scores to settle.
A record season
The sixth season of BAL began on March 27 in Pretoria, South Africa, before passing through Rabat in Morocco, to culminate with these playoffs in Kigali. The season broke audience records: BAL’s social networks generated more than 722 million views during the group phase, an absolute record. The league continues to grow, with games broadcast in 214 countries and territories, including all 54 countries in Africa.
