Since November 2025 and until March 2026, 16 African teams are competing for qualification for the FIBA 2027 World Cup. Divided into 4 groups of 4 teams, the selections will compete in 6 qualification windows. In the end, the top 5 nations in the final ranking will win their ticket for the Qatar world championship.
In group B, based in Dakar, the matches will be between Senegal, DR Congo, Madagascar and Côte d'Ivoire. We will therefore have some heavy weight at the Marius Ndiaye stadium. Senegal, the host country of the pool, leaves with a certain advantage: the audience. The Lions also have experience in major competitions. Ngagne DeSagana Diop, coach of the Lions, will be able to count on his stars, including Brancou Badio and Jean Jacques Boissy. However, the Senegalese will have to be wary.
Indeed, Côte d'Ivoire will be a major obstacle. The Elephants are one of the best basketball nations on the continent and have proven it notably with a qualification at the last two World Cups. Jean Philippe Dally’s teammates will be keen to confirm their status. DR Congo, which had twice beaten Senegal in the first round of qualifying for the 2023 World Cup, will not be taken lightly, just like Madagascar. The Malagasy are considered as the little Poucet since they have never competed for qualification windows at the World Cup...
Egypt hosts a tough group in Alexandria
Pool D, on the other hand, will be based in Egypt for this window. The host country will face Mali, Angola and Uganda. Egyptians will be keen to shine at home against strong nations of the orange ball. However, the most attractive poster will undoubtedly be Angola - Mali, which was the confrontation of the last final of the AfroBasket 2025 with a victory of the Angolans. The Malians will therefore have the opportunity to take their revenge.
