The draw for the 2026 World Cup groups was held this Friday in Washington. The nine African nations in contention, potentially waiting for the DR Congo, are fixed on their fate.

The dice are cast. With the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington D.C as a backdrop, the draw ceremony for the 2026 World Cup groups was the center of global attention. The 48 nations that will take part in the final phase of the tournament are now fixed on their fate.

Brazil - Morocco and France - Senegal on the air of revenge


If the preview print was drawn in length, the long-awaited print offered shocks for many African nations. Morocco, semi-finalist of the last edition will thus face Brazil in a group C, with Haiti and Scotland. A Brazil - Morocco that will have the appearance of a revenge, as the Lions of the Atlas won their opposition in March 2023 (2-1).

Heavy also for Senegal, who will find France 23 years later after the exploit of the 2002 World Cup (victory 1-0). But Pape Thiaw’s men will be entitled to two other choice oppositions, starting with Erling Haaland’s Norway, then an intercontinental dam winner.
