Privacy policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
Sport News Africa (SNA) publishes sportnewsafrica.com, its sections, the Tribune (discussion rooms), Fantasy (game) and its newsletters. This page explains what data we collect, why, how long we keep it and how to exercise your rights. It applies to all services of the site, in French and English.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Sport News Africa, publisher of the site. Contact for any question about your data: contact@sportnewsafrica.com. The site is hosted in France (OVH).
2. Data we collect
Reading without an account
No sign-up is needed to read articles, scores, the Tribune or to answer polls. Your reading preferences (country, sport, saved articles) stay in your browser. Polls and predictions use an anonymous session identifier to count one answer per device.
SNA account
At sign-up: username, e-mail address, password (stored encrypted, never readable), creation date. Optional: country, favourite club, a few words about you, Fantasy team name. The e-mail address is used to confirm the account and recover a forgotten password.
Sign-in with Google or Facebook
If you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Facebook”, we receive from that service: a technical identifier, your name and your e-mail address (and whether it is verified). We access nothing else: not your contacts, posts or friends. We never post on your behalf. This data is only used to create or link your SNA account.
Tribune
Messages, topics, replies and rooms you create are public and linked to your username. We also record reports, blocks and your acceptance of the charter. An automatic filter checks messages before and after publication to enforce the charter; borderline cases may be reviewed by the newsroom.
Fantasy
Your leagues, teams, game actions, standings and, where applicable, the information needed to deliver a prize (name, country, contact address) when you claim one.
Newsletter and notifications
E-mail address for the newsletter (double opt-in, unsubscribe at any time); a technical browser token if you enable push notifications.
Technical data
Server logs (IP address, pages requested, date) kept for security, and audience measurement.
3. Why we use it
- To run the site, the account, the Tribune, Fantasy and newsletters (performance of the service).
- To keep the site safe: abuse prevention, rate limiting, moderation under the charter.
- To measure audience and improve the site (statistics).
- To display advertising; advertisers do not receive your account data.
We do not sell your data and do not pass it to third parties for commercial purposes.
4. Cookies and audience measurement
The site uses a session cookie (sign-in and anonymous vote counting), your browser’s local storage for preferences, and Google Analytics for audience measurement. You can block cookies in your browser; reading the site remains possible.
5. Retention
- SNA account: as long as the account exists, then deletion on request.
- Tribune messages: kept for the continuity of discussions; deleted or anonymised with the account on request.
- Technical logs: 12 months at most.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
6. Your rights
You can at any time access your data, correct it, ask for its deletion or portability, and object to certain processing. From “My SNA account” you change your username, e-mail address, password and profile. For any other request, write to contact@sportnewsafrica.com: reply within 30 days. You may also contact the data protection authority of your country.
7. Delete your account and data
Send an e-mail to contact@sportnewsafrica.com from your account address (or stating your username) with the subject “Delete my SNA account”. The account, profile, linked Google or Facebook identities and game data are deleted within 30 days; your public Tribune messages are anonymised. If you used Facebook, you can also remove the app from your Facebook settings: we then receive the deletion instruction.
8. Minors
The account, the Tribune and Fantasy are intended for people aged 15 and over.
9. Changes
This policy may evolve with the services. The update date appears at the top of the page; significant changes are announced on the site.
SNA iOS app
In the app, open More → My SNA → Delete my account. After confirmation, the shared account, sessions, profile, linked identities and personal game entries are removed from active databases. Your posts and messages are erased; “Message deleted” anchors may remain to preserve other members’ replies. Leagues still used by other members are transferred to them and their own data is preserved. Restricted security backups are not accessible through the app; contact us for questions about these copies.
My SNA → Privacy lets you allow or disable YouTube players. Players are blocked before you allow them; thumbnails may load separately. YouTube receives technical data when a player is enabled. Google Analytics and the main advertising measurement domains are blocked in integrated app pages. This app-specific protection does not automatically disable audience measurement when you visit the website directly in a browser.
When Apple login is enabled, SNA receives an identifier, name and email from Apple; an Apple private relay address may be used. Revocation tokens are encrypted on the server and revoked when the account is deleted. Google and Facebook login remain optional.
