After winning the COSAFA Cup with South Africa, central defender Austin Dube has signed for CAF Champions League runners-up Kaizer Chiefs.
Dube was one of the star performers for South Africa during the recently completed COSAFA Cup, playing a key role as the team won the competition and finished without conceding a goal in their six matches.
The 28-year-old left footed central defender has joined Chiefs from second tier club Richards Bay and has signed a three-year deal, with an option to extend for a further two years. He is a left-sided central defender who will bring balance to the Chiefs defence in the 2021/22 season.
“We would like to confirm the signing of Thabani Austin Dube. The central defender joins Amakhosi from Richards Bay United on a 3 year contract with a further 2 year option. The 28 year old Dube recently lifted the Cosafa Cup with Bafana Bafana,” Chiefs said in a statement.
The South African giants, who were beaten 3-0 in the Champions League final on Saturday, 17 July, have been busy in the transfer market, bolstering their squad for the upcoming season.
In recent weeks, Chiefs have announced the signings of Phathutshedzo Nange, Sifiso Hlanti, Brandon Petersen, Kgaogelo Sekgota, Sibusiso Mabiliso and Njabulo Ngcobo, while Given Thibedi returned from a loan spell from Chiefs’ Soweto rivals Swallows.
Chiefs will not feature in the next Champions League edition after they finished in eighth place in the DSTV Premiership. Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu will represent South Africa in the competition.
