It's still wide open between Real and Chelsea. The two teams shared the spoils in the away leg semi finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night in Madrid.
Real Madrid's 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea was not a good result in terms of the score line. The visitors took their host by surprise, winning most of the early exchanges and gaining confidence having more of the ball possession over the most successful club in the competition. That payed off when Christian Pulisic tear passed Madrid's defense and Keeper to open scoring (14 mins) for the visitors even before the first quarter of the game.
Later from a well worked out counter move, Timo Werner missed from close range as Madrid's keeper made a remarkable save that kept his side in the game. Chelsea's tactical formation posed serious challenges to Madrid's magic trio in the middle of the park as the English side dominated. But the Spanish giants once again could count on Frenchman Karim Benzema who's intelligence was heightened as he leveled scoring 29 min with a well taken volley.
Karim Benzema scored his 71st Champions League goal equaling another Madrid great Raul Gonzalez on the all time top scorer chart. The rest of the match remained unchanged. It's a good thing that we've got a good team, but we're not going to be able to win the game," Benzema remarks at full time. The return leg game comes up next Wednesday in Chelsea's own backyard.
