Elephants and Leopards in search of the first place
The stade Marius Ndiaye will be the scene of a big clash between the DR Congo and Côte d'Ivoire this Saturday evening (18h GMT). The Elephants beat Senegal (90-80) in their first outing with a huge Kevin Yebo, who scored 15 points, or Lionel Kouadio and his 7 rebounds and one block. Jean-Philippe Dally (12 points) was also impressive and will be a considerable asset for the Elephants who have a very homogeneous group with individualities that shine with a thousand lights.
On the other hand, the Democratic Republic of Congo also arrives with full confidence after their victory (87-79) over Madagascar for their first match. Against Ivory Coast, the Leopards can count on their attacking leader, Jordan Sakho who was the most decisive player against Madagascar (31 points) with his 19 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks. Apart from the pivot of Breogan, the leader of the FUS of Rabat, Jonathan Jordan, best scorer with his 19 points also remains an element to watch for the Elephants. Without forgetting the three-point shooting specialist Patrick Kazumba Mwamba, who scored 3 (out of 6) against Madagascar.
A little later in the evening, Senegal will try to catch up against Madagascar in order to keep their chances of qualification. Woe to the loser in this duel of 'wounded'.
Mali can put pressure on Angola
In the Group D held in Alexandria, Egypt, Mali and Angola also compete for first place. The Eagles are currently second but have the advantage of playing at 6 PM and can therefore put pressure on the Palancas Negras in case of a victory against Uganda.
Mali had largely won 86-77 against Egypt. Against Uganda who was beaten by Angola in their first match, the Eagles, worn by Oumar Ballo (23 points, 12 rebounds against the Cranes) can claim victory and temporarily take the first place to put pressure on Angola.
The Palancas Negras, precisely face Egypt after having corrected Uganda (90-68) in the opening match, to make the pass of two. The winner of the last AfroBasket does not want to miss or compromise his qualification and will do everything to get closer to qualifying even before the third day. Childe Dundao, Selton Miguel (19 points against Uganda) or even Kevin Kokila (10 rebounds) are the frames on which Pep Carlos will count.
