All original articlesAlgeria is in the round of sixteen of the AFCON 2025. The Fennecs won (1-0) with difficulty against Burkina Faso this Sunday evening to win their second victory in the competition and especially validate their ticket for the next round without conceding a goal this far.
Algeria dominates and validates its strong point
Under the watchful eye of Zinedine Zidane, still present to support his son between the sticks for Algeria, the Fennecs launched their evening in a thunderous manner, with the aim of directly qualifying for the eighth final against Burkina Faso.
The Fennecs were so agitated that after six minutes of play, Burkina Faso almost saw their side on a numerical disadvantage. Gustavo Sangaré escapes with a yellow card after a late tackle on the ankle of Jaouen Hadjam who will finally come out in the 14th minute and leave his place for Bagdad Bounedjah.
Vladimir Petkovic’s men continued to push and will be rewarded before the half-hour of play. Ismahila Ouedraogo, at fault in the area on Rayan Ait-Nouri who was making an incursion. Riyad Mahrez went easy and converted the penalty (23'), thus scoring his third goal in this competition after only two days. The Stalons gave everything to come back, but apart from the post of Mohamed Zougrana in the 42nd minute, Algeria was not really worried and entered the locker room with this advantage.
Burkina Faso rebalances the debates, without concretizing
In the second period, Brama Traoré’s men were determined to catch up on Algeria and got the best chances with the entries of Georgi Minoungou, Lassina Traoré and Cyriaque Irié.
Burkina Faso will have tried everything but failed to score this equalizer and will have to wait until Wednesday and their match against Sudan to try to qualify for the eighth finals of this AFCON 2025. Algeria, on the other hand, validates their ticket with two victories in as many games.
