Current top scorer of the Senegalese championship with eight goals, Mouhamed Diop asserts himself as one of the revelations of the season. At only 17 years old, the striker from AJEL de Rufisque impresses with his efficiency and is already attracting the attention of several African and European clubs.

Originally from Thiès, the young center forward has made spectacular progress since his arrival at the AJEL in Rufisque. Under contract with the club until June 30, 2028, he quickly integrated into an environment that he himself describes as family.

" The club is like a second family for us. I was received with open arms and I feel comfortable here"

 he confides in an interview.

A rapid ascent

Before exploding under the colors of the AJEL, Mouhamed Diop was playing for Wally Daan. But in his former club, playing time was limited for the young striker, notably blocked by the attacking competition. "I was training, but joining the team type was difficult. One day they gave me my chance and I took it," he explains.

This click changed the trajectory of his young career. Spotted by the AJEL of Rufisque, he reached a new level by joining an ambitious and structured team. In this well-oiled collective, Diop has found a framework conducive to its development.

An intense work at the origin of his performances

The young striker’s explosion is no coincidence. To listen to him, the physical preparation at the beginning of the season played a determining role.

“Preparing for the AJEL was hellish for me. It was very difficult, but we gritted our teeth. I think these performances come from this work,"

he admits.

In the locker room, the striker also insists on the importance of the collective. According to him, the team spirit that reigns within the group is one of the secrets of current success.

«There is a real union between the leaders, the staff, and the players. Those on the bench wish you success. Sometimes a teammate can score, but he prefers to serve me,"

he says. This solidarity, rare in an offensive sector often marked by competition, illustrates the atmosphere that prevails in the club.

A dream of records

With 8 goals after 17 games, Mouhamed Diop already has big ambitions. The striker does not hide his goal: to finish top scorer in the championship and try to beat the record held by Ibrahima Niane, author of 19 goals during the 2016-2017 season with Génération Foot. An ambition worthy of his talent, even if the task remains immense for a player of only 17 years old.

Already followed in the market

The performances of the young striker, valued at 250,000 euros, obviously did not escape the recruiters. Several clubs are already following his progress. In Africa, the Entente Sportive de Sétif in Algeria is closely interested in its profile. In Europe too, some clubs, notably in France, closely monitor the development of this young Senegalese talent. For the time being, Mouhamed Diop remains focused on his objectives with the AJEL.

The club also dreams of a historic season. Leader of the Senegalese championship with a real possibility of creating a surprise, he could play a major role in this exploit. "We are not playing the maintenance. This year, we are aiming for the title," insists the striker.

At this pace, the Senegalese championship could well showcase Mouhamed Diop one of its next great revelations.
