All original articlesFollowing his recent outings on social media implicating a certain home based Indomitable Lion not receiving the entirety of his bonuses at the AFCON 2023, Andre Onana could just have opened they way for his official sanction and dismissal from the Indomitable Lions by FECAFOOT.
The tension between André Onana and the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot) is rising. According to information from Sport News Africa, the governing body of Cameroonian football is considering sanctioning the goalkeeper of Trabzonspor following his recent public statements directly targeting its president Samuel Eto'o.
Internally, a disciplinary decision would have been prepared by the manager, before being slowed down by his entourage, anxious to avoid giving the image of a "settling of accounts". An alternative would have emerged: entrust the examination of the Onana case to the next General Assembly of the federation, in order to ratify a decision of a collective nature.
«As long as the current leaders are in office, he does not imagine a return»
According to several sources, the name of André Onana should thus appear on the agenda of this future General Assembly. Among the options considered, a several-year suspension of the national team is mentioned, in a context already marked by the sidelining of the player during the 2025 African Nations Cup and the FIFA Series of March 2026. Officially, no procedure has yet been made public, but the prospect of a heavy penalty is now circulating in circles close to the federation.
In the player’s camp, these signals are not surprising. A close friend of André Onana confirms having heard about the ongoing maneuvers, while putting their impact into perspective
«We know that the Fécafoot is preparing a sanction against André Onana. They want to sanction a player whom they have excluded from the national team. This is a maneuver that will have no effect since, for the moment, André Onana no longer gets call ups to the national team. As long as the current leaders are in office, he does not imagine a return,"
he says. And to add: "This sanction will therefore be a missed punch,"
reflecting an assumed rupture between the player and the institution.
Onana’s accusations
At the origin of this new sequence, a live TikTok during which the Cameroonian goalkeeper delivered a direct charge against the governance of national football. «I have no problem with the Fécafoot. I disagree with an individual who uses the Fécafoot and the national team to settle accounts," he said, denouncing a system where "if you do not agree, they put you aside." Looking back on his journey, he adds: "I took many blows for the love of our country (...) today I can only support our young brothers."
In another sequence, he disputes any outside involvement in his transfer to Inter Milan: "There is an individual who says everywhere that he was behind my signing, even though he discovered it on television like everyone else." Finally, he raises suspicions about bonuses during the 2023 AFCON, suggesting that a local player would have received only 5 million CFA francs out of a total envelope exceeding 50 million CFA francs.
These accusations quickly sparked responses in the federation's ecosystem. A media outlet reputed to be close to the Fécafoot claims, after checking administrative sources, that the mentioned bonus was "fully paid," citing a simple technical banking incident quickly corrected.
For his part, the head of communication at Fécafoot, Jean Marie Nkoussa, rejects any idea of opacity. "You can’t comment on rumors," he said, ensuring that payments are made directly to players via bank transfers through an accounting agent. "There is not a bonus that is paid via the federation," he insists. In this climate of mutual distrust, the prospect of an official sanction could transform a latent crisis into an open institutional rupture.
