All original articlesThe ace of the 2026 African U17 Nations Cup is now known. This Thursday, the four best selections of young people on the continent compete for a place in the final. On the program of these semi-finals of the CAN U17, two explosive posters that promise a great show: Tanzania – Egypt and Morocco – Senegal.
With FIFA’s new expanded format, Africa now sends ten representatives to the U17 World Cup in Qatar. With the group stage and play-offs (which saw Mozambique and Uganda snatch the last tickets) having reached a verdict, Egypt, Tanzania, Morocco and Senegal are already set to take off for the Gulf. This Thursday, the pressure from the World Cup is fading away to give way to the ambition of playing one last match to compete for the trophy of the category.
Egypt facing the Tanzanian sensation
To open the ball of this last four, Egypt will start as favorite against the real surprise of this U17 AFCON, Tanzania. The young Pharaohs impress with their offensive power. In the quarter-finals, they made short work of Côte d'Ivoire (4-1), folding the match in the first period with three goals before the break.
A show of force that contrasts with the commando journey of Tanzania. Narrowly qualified after a well-conducted group stage, the Tanzanians created a sensation by eliminating Algeria at the end of the suspense in a quarter-final (3-3, 4-2 knockout). Capable of the best and driven by total recklessness, will the Tanzanian underdogs manage to derail the Egyptian machine?
Morocco – Senegal with the scent of revenge
This is the main dish, the poster that all the followers of the competition are waiting for: the Lion Cubs of the Atlas challenge the Lion Cubs of Teranga. More than a match, it is a great classic of African youth football. We remember the final of 2023 won by Senegal, then the Moroccan coronation at home in 2025. For this 2026 edition, Morocco, the host country and title holder, will find its historic rival in Rabat. The Moroccans have validated their ticket by defeating Cameroon (1-0) and will rely on a public acquired to their cause.
For their part, Senegal had to draw on their physical and mental reserves to eliminate Mali in an unbreathable Western derby (1-1, 4-2 TBA). Reduced to ten, the Senegalese showed clinical composure during the shootout. The good news for the 2023 African champions concerns their captain, Souleymane "Commissaire" Faye. Out on injury against the Malians, the Senegalese jewel has been declared fit and will be present to challenge the Moroccan rearguard.
The two matches will be played on the pitch of the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. The matches will be broadcast live on the CAF channel (CAF TV on YouTube), as well as on the national channels of the countries concerned (the Moroccan channel Arryadia, RTS in Senegal, Azam TV in Tanzania and ON Time Sports in Egypt).
