Georgi Minoungou, new dynamiter of the Stallions?
He is the new rising star of the Burkinabe selection. Having been talked about since the Club World Cup with the Seattle Sounders in MLS, Georgi Minoungou continues to progress. The 23-year-old right winger has become a regular member of the national team and an offensive reinforcement. He was added to Bertrand Traoré, Dango Ouattara, Lassina Traoré... to have a fierce attack in Morocco.
Despite his one-eyed handicap, Georgi Minoungou ignored everything to show his qualities. He is powerful, technical and adroit in goal. This season with the Seattle Sounders, he scored 3 goals and delivered 10 assists in 34 games in all competitions.
After 6 caps with the Stallions, Minoungou scored his first two goals. It was in a friendly match during the last international break against Benin during the 3-0 victory. For his first African Cup of Nations, the native of Batiebly-Douibly only wants the trophy.
« Our goal is to go win at the AFCON. I am ready and the whole team is ready. The atmosphere of the group is good and this is very important. We are going to go to Morocco to give everything for the nation,"
he said after the friendly match against Benin, in Mohammédia, Morocco.

A few weeks after the elimination of Burkina Faso in the eighth finals at the 2023 AFCON and the dismissal of Frenchman Hubert Velud, the Burkinabe Federation officialized Brama Traoré on March 11, 2024. Since then, the technician has been in charge of the national team with a record of 11 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats in 20 matches.
Brama Traoré built a strong defensive team based on careful and organized play. The coach advances by being ambitious before the competition. For him, Burkina Faso is ready to go lift the trophy after being a finalist in 2013 and third and 2017. Only the final victory is missing from the Stallions' record.
“We have to go get the cup. We were silver medalists, bronze. We want to write a glorious page of our history and that will go through a victory in the final. That’s our ambition. We are working on this goal,"
he said at the press conference for the publication of the list, last Monday.
The tone is already set. Housed in group E with Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan, Burkina Faso begins its adventure at the 2025 against the Nzalang Nacional on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at 12:30 GMT, at the Mohammed-V stadium in Casablanca.
