Less than a year after his unopposed election, Fabrice Shema Ngoga, the president of the Rwandan Football Federation, was apprehended by the Rwanda Investigative Bureau this Tuesday, August 11, for bounced checks.

For several insiders, this arrest was not surprising given the opacity with which he runs the federation in a very personal manner. Eager to impose his methods and his people, he has brought about many changes, from commissions to the coach as well as a new secretary general.

Will the investigations lead to results regarding the fixed matches case in D2?

While the investigations continue, the vice-president of AS Kigali, Anne-Lise Alida Kankindi, suddenly resigned. Very close to Shema Ngoga, this decision symbolizes a wave of panic within Rwandan football, which cannot find stability and too often finds itself entangled in corruption scandals.

As usual with Rwanda, FIFA remains silent and stays out of the issue due to the connections between Gianni Infantino and Paul Kagame. No political interference has been raised yet, while others in Kigali are questioning the scope of the ongoing investigations, especially concerning the fixed matches in the second division.
