Since the elimination in the first round at the 2023 edition and the departure of Jalel Kadri, Tunisia has experienced instability on the bench before the appointment of Sami Trabelsi in February 2025. Replacing Faouzi Benzarti, the coach is doing a remarkable job with qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Hannibal Mejbri, finally shine at the AFCON

Hannibal Mejbri

Aged 22 years, Hannibal Mejbri is one of the sure values of the Tunisian selection. The midfielder from Burnley approaches the AVON 2025 with confidence. For once, he is in top form before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Before the 2021 edition , he tested positive for Covid-19. Although he finally participated in the competition, he couldn’t give his best. He missed the 2023 AFCON at his request, not being in the best mental dispositions. This year, he played a series of matches with the Clarets in the Premier League (13 games, one decisive pass), 14 matches in all competitions combined. Even though he missed the last two matches in the championship due to a suspension of the disciplinary commission, the Tunisian is ready to join the group very soon and begin preparations for the Morocco expedition.

Sami Trabelsi, restore his image in the African Cup of Nations

12 years later, Sami Trabelsi is back on the bench of the Eagles of Carthage. The 57-year-old technician has a revenge to take on himself. The first passage was far from a suc ess.  Back at the African Cup of Nations, he will be keen to do better with the Eagles, on Moroccan soil.

Tunisia is housed in group C with Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda. The Carthage Eagles play their first match against the Uganda Cranes on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 20:00 GMT, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat.
