Fayrouz Aboelkheir won the Canadian Women’s Open with a final victory over Georgina Kennedy in Toronto on Friday 30 October. The Egyptian prevailed in four games (11–4, 11–2, 4–11, 13–11) in 49 minutes on the court at Brookfield Place.
She quickly went two games to nil up. Kennedy revived the contest by taking the third game 11–4, then earned two game balls to level at two games all. Aboelkheir saved them before closing out the fourth game 13–11.
The top seed thus wins her ninth PSA Tour title, and her second of the season. She had already beaten Kennedy in the final of the Swedish Open earlier this month.
Before the final, Aboelkheir had not dropped a game in the matches played. Her run included a walkover from the injured Anahat Singh in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals she eliminated fellow Egyptian Nada Abbas 11–1, 11–9, 11–8. Kennedy, for her part, had beaten Tinne Gilis in three games.
The tour moves on to Philadelphia, where the US Open is scheduled from 1 to 7 November.
