In a grandiloquent article, very much in the tradition of the Olympic family, ANOCA proudly announced its forthcoming elective General Assembly, which is set to hand Berraf another term. The Algerian will even be celebrated on home soil, as the vote takes place in Algiers on 15 March.
Unopposed, he will serve a third term with an executive committee still to be chosen. While some posts are sure to go to certain individuals without opposition (first vice-president, fourth vice-president and treasurer general), there will be an intense contest for the posts of third vice-president and secretary general in particular.
Political games behind the scenes
While ANOCA boasts of a flattering record, the manoeuvring behind the scenes points to certain unspoken tensions and to convenient promotions aimed at placating potential ambitious figures, as in 2017, when the president of the Cameroonian Olympic committee, Hamad Kalkaba, had the elections that installed Ivorian Lassana Palenfo annulled at the CAS.

Among the many photos scattered through the article on ANOCA's official website, several observers noted with a smile the constant presence of former Tunisian sports minister Kamel Deguiche, who has been particularly close to Mustapha Berraf since the 2023 African Beach Games in Hammamet. Enough to fuel some speculation and rumours, as is customary in the Olympic family.
